Artist Bio

Nicholas Berumann is a recent graduate of the University of Colorado Denver, completing a BFA in photography and sculpture as well as a BA in art history. After spending his earlier years as an owner of a jewelry business and entrepreneur, he is now devoting his life to his artistic pursuits. Berumann has struggled throughout his entire life living with several physical and mental disabilities like Bi Polar Disorder, OCD and Schizoaffective disorder to mention a few. A major theme in the art he produces, surround the problems with his disabilities that he has faced and struggles to overcome.
Berumann creates art as a means of self-expression in order to deal with his disabilities. As an artist he uses his art to identify with the hidden qualities of his character, to better understand his reality, and to express his view of the world around him. He works in many different media, including watercolor, pencil, charcoal, metals, photography and multimedia. Berumann looks for the unexpected in his work, and makes a deliberate effort to create surprises in the journey of creating a work of art. His ideas are driven by what is happening in his life and the world around him, including subconscious thoughts, spontaneous fantasies, and dreams. “Through art,” Berumann says, I have learned to say things and express ideas that I cannot in voice or word.”
With the exception of a couple pieces given as gifts, mostl of his art is destroyed shortly after it is created. Berumann states that he creates his art for himself and no one else. He is driven by the need to demonstrate to himself his ability to create what he feels is beautiful and aesthetically appealing, before he loses his ability to create, due to his many disabilities.
